The Community Partnership School staff at Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville are truly on a mission to support any and everyone who walks through the school doors. Students often face challenges they can’t handle alone and that’s when the staff steps in to provide the support and resources they need to be successful.
When a high school senior and first-time mom was feeling overwhelmed, she turned to one of our coordinators for guidance. The coordinator provided her with information on parenting classes and introduced her to one of our in-house programs, Healthy Families.
“The young woman approached me with a mix of excitement and concern about her new role as a mother,” said the coordinator. Through Healthy Families, she gained access to personalized parenting education and extra support tailored to new moms.
The student was also anxious about the attention she would receive from her peers. Through the comprehensive support of the Community Partnership School she was able to see a mental health counselor right at her own school. The counselor helped her navigate her feelings and the social dynamics of high school.
Graduation was another area of concern as the challenges of being a new mom caused her grades to slip. The Community Partnership School’s Expanded Learning Coordinator was able to step in to explore tutoring options, mentorship opportunities, and other resources that could help her stay on track to graduate.
The support couldn’t stop there, the team was all in! Our Family and Community Engagement Coordinator (FACE) was able to provide local resources in case she needed anything like food, clothing, or even housing. Being an all-around support ecosystem they were able to alleviate any additional stress she may encounter while balancing school and motherhood.
“Throughout our interactions, I made it a priority to listen attentively, offer encouragement, and provide ongoing support as we worked through her concerns together. By the end of our meeting, the student was feeling more confident and reassured. We exchanged contact information so that I could continue to check in and offer help as she moved forward in her journey as both a student and a mother,” stated the school’s Wellness Coordinator.
“The gratitude she expressed was heartfelt, and I left our conversation feeling proud to be part of a team that could offer such comprehensive, compassionate support. Seeing the impact we could make in her life—emotionally, academically, and practically—reinforced the importance of the work we do at Edward H. White High School.”
