Tampa, Fla., (September 13, 2024) – The Greater Tampa Bay Advisory Board of Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS) proudly hosted the Community Appreciation and Recognition Social on September 12, 2024. This special event celebrated the dedication and contributions of outstanding individuals and organizations that have significantly impacted the lives of children and families in the community.

During the event, 3 distinguished awards were presented:

2024 Child Advocate of the Year: Brian Butler, CEO Vistra Communications

This is a coveted award named after Dave Thomas of Wendys who believed in empowering children to succeed. Dave Thomas was a member of the CHS Foundation and has a named endowment as well. The winner of the award must possess many attributes including: exceptional contribution to the well-being of children in the community, known and respected in the local community as an advocate for children, has positive moral character/integrity and is associated with business and community interests, and uses their influence to support Children’s Home Society of Florida. Brian Butler has been an active community member and leader especially when it comes to advocating for children in Tampa Bay.

2024 Legacy Partner: Silver Coffee – Silver Coffee Committee –

This amazing group of Pinellas Ladies has been working to support the children and families in Pinellas County and the Greater Tampa Bay Community for more than 45 years! They have raised over $1.5 Million by a long-standing tradition of having themed dinners and gatherings with their friends and rotating hosting homes. We recognize not just their partnership with Children’s Home Society but the legacy they have created.

2024 Legislator of the Year:  Rep. Fionna McFarland

Rep. Fionna McFarland is a champion for children and successfully passed legislation during the 2024 Legislative Session to improve accountability for the child welfare system. We appreciated the Representative’s openness throughout the process, as well as her willingness to hear our perspective and consider our suggestions for improvement.

The Community Appreciation and Recognition Social was graciously hosted by Bloomin’ Brands, Inc. which was established in Tampa, Florida in 1988. Immediately following the Social, the CHS Greater Tampa Bay Board held their advisory meeting and welcomed new governance including Chair Isaac Henderson with Jacobs Engineering Group and Vice Chair Jason Costello with City National Bank. They will each serve a 2-year term.
