Safe Place shelters are here to be your safe place to go when you need help. We will work with you to ensure you are provided with the services you need.

Throughout St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River and Okeechobee counties, highly-visible yellow and black signs (as shown below) are displayed on the exterior of various businesses that comprise the network of Safe Place sites. This is where young people can go if they need help quickly.

Who Qualifies?

  • Anyone under the age of 18 who has run away, been locked out and/or needs help

If you cannot reach a shelter immediately, you can text TXT 4 HELP, a nationwide, 24-hour text-for-support service for teens in crisis. If you’re in trouble or need help, text SAFE and your current location (address, city, state) to 4HELP (44357) for immediate help.

What to expect?

  • When you go to a Safe Place requesting assistance, an employee at the site will help you with the next steps.
  • A shelter counselor will then work to safely get you to our WaveCREST shelter for counseling. WaveCREST (Link to: https://chsfl.org/services/for-teens/wavecrest-shelter/) is a temporary place to stay in the midst of crisis so you have a sense of security and access to basic necessities.
  • We make it easy for you to find a sense of safety by providing Safe Place shelters within your own neighborhood. Allowing you to seek out the shelter you need.

We offer this in the following regions:
