Acknowledging that her life was not solely hers but intertwined with the futures of her children, Shavonda embraced a case plan aimed at reunification. Rekindling her faith and seeking refuge in her church community, Shavonda found the strength to overcome her addiction and confront other battles she faced. The grace she found through her faith propelled her forward.

Determined to regain custody of her children, Shavonda followed and fulfilled every requirement outlined for her. She reentered the workforce and pursued education. Amidst her trials, her supportive husband, who had once taken her in during her darkest days, became a guiding light.

After a year and a half, Shavonda successfully reunited with her children.

“I feel complete,” says Shavonda. “It was tormenting without my children and it was nobody’s fault but mine, so I knew there was something I had to do to make this right.”

She recognizes the impact of her actions on her children and emphasizes the responsibility every parent holds toward their children. Shavonda’s advice echoes her experience: with faith, all obstacles can be overcome. While the process wasn’t always easy or comfortable, she emphasizes the greater purpose behind it, urging others to humble themselves and comply with necessary actions, regardless of personal feelings.
