Cindy and Chidimma's family

It can be challenging bonding with an autistic child, but Children’s Home Society of Florida’s Healthy Families curriculum has helped Cindy and Chidimma communicate with their almost 3-year-old son, Christian.

“I definitely think the curriculum is how I’ve been able to connect with my son,” says Cindy. “I know a lot of friends and colleagues who are in similar positions and haven’t been able to connect with their young children. I’ve been able to take some of the activities from the curriculum and help them communicate with their children.”

For Cindy’s husband, Chidimma, it was a bit of a struggle for him to acknowledge that something was wrong with Christian. But with the special care and patience from the Children's Home Society of Florida staff, the family has been able to properly educate themselves on Christian’s development and get him the support he needs.

Healthy Families helped pinpoint Christian’s developmental delays and prompted the family to get extra help. Cindy says moving forward, she sees the lessons they’ve learned as a constant part of their lives and that they will help Christian work through his developmental challenges as he grows up.
