Search and Reunion

As of January 1, 2022, CHS has discontinued its search and reunion services, but we have a few places we recommend to continue your search, such as the Florida Adoption Registry, Commercial DNA Services such as Ancestry.com, or contacting the local court where your adoption was finalized.

Birth parents may update family and/or medical history at any time. Those adopted through CHS may request non-identifying family medical history at any time.

Continuing Your Search

To continue your search, we recommend you register with the Florida Adoption Registry where you’ll be notified if there are any matches related to the demographic information you provide.
You can also register with a Commercial DNA Service, such as Ancestry.com or 23andMe.com, where you’ll provide DNA to be analyzed and notified of other individuals in the databases should there be a match.
And, finally, if you want your file unsealed, you’ll need to reach out to the Clerk of Court in the county where your adoption was finalized, but only the judge can decide to unseal the file or not.

Non-identifying information request

We are happy to provide non-identifying information from your record, such as hair color and eye color of the baby or biological parents, for a $75 fee.

Updates and exchanges

Birth families and adoptive families that have previously shared updates may continue coordinating the exchanges through the local CHS office. If that office is no longer facilitating updates, call us at 904-493-7744.

Florida Statutes Chapter 65C-16.016 and Chapter 63.162 do not allow public access to adoption records. The Adoption Archives Unit at Children’s Home Society of Florida preserves records of clients so adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents can obtain background information and receive services for search and reunion in accordance with the statute.
