Adoption: Search and reunion

Who can be served and how?

Adult adoptee
If you’re at least 18 years old, you may request non-identifying information or begin search-and-reunion services. We deeply value your trust and keep all requests confidential; thus, we will not notify your adoptive parents of your desire for information or search services. To begin the process, please contact us at (904) 493-7780 or complete the Request for Services form. (There is a fee involved to cover the cost of services.)

Birth parent
If the child you placed for adoption is now 18 years or older, you may request to search for your child for a possible reunion. To begin the process, please contact us at (904) 493-7780 or complete the Request for Services form. (There is a fee involved to cover the cost of services.)

Adoptive parent
If your child is under 18 years of age and is requesting non-identifying information or desires to search for his or her birth parents, you are the legal party that must request these services. To begin the process, please contact us at (904) 493-7780 or complete the Request for Services form. (There is a fee involved to cover the cost of services.)

If your child is 18 years or older, please refer to the options for the adult adoptee.

REQUESTING UPDATES AND EXCHANGES

If you’ve previously shared updates and exchanges with the family that adopted your child (or, if you’re an adoptive family that has shared updates with the birth family), we can facilitate the updates. If you’ve been providing updates through the local Children’s Home Society of Florida office that coordinated the adoption, please continue to contact that office for the service.

If that office is no longer facilitating the updates, contact us at (904) 493-7780. Once our Adoption Archive Unit receives the records, the ability to provide and/or request updates will be contingent on the most recent contact information provided by either family. It is extremely important to provide us with any changes in your name and/or address.
