Celebrating our child welfare professionals
We honor our unsung heroes all year long!
Aixa M. Ortiz
I always wanted a career that made a difference in people’s lives. I really wanted to serve people who needed someone to be there for them.
As a counselor at Children’s Home Society of Florida, working with children and families can be both enjoyable and demanding. But I wouldn’t change it! So many times, things happen that remind me that I’m exactly where I need to be. I had one client who suffered severe trauma and had a number of counselors before she came to Children's Home Society of Florida. She never opened up to her past counselors, but I was able to earn her trust, and she finally opened up to me by writing me a letter so we could begin talking about it. It’s gratifying to know I was able to make a difference in her life and that she trusted me enough to open up.
I truly believe child welfare is one of the most rewarding careers one could choose. Here at Children's Home Society of Florida, we dedicate our time and efforts to provide a better tomorrow for our children and their families.
