Meetings with a trained counselor will help each expectant mother to plan for her unborn child. These sessions can be scheduled at the CHS office or in the privacy of a woman's home. Regular counseling sessions usually are held every three or four weeks, or more often if needed.
If an expectant mother wishes, she may include the child's father and family in her counseling.
Each mother ultimately makes her own decision. The choice is hers and CHS' caring counselors will respect that decision.
If a mother chooses adoption, counseling includes various types of adoption, grief and separation issues, and legal procedures. Among the options are:
- Meeting the adoptive parents
- Hospital placement
- Receiving pictures and letter updates
- Traditional closed, semi-open, or fully open adoption
- Counseling after placement for as long as needed
If a mother chooses to parent her child, CHS can provide:
- Counseling upon request
- Referrals to CHS family support programs
- Referrals to parenting classes
- Linkage to community resources that assist new parents
