Kids run away from home for all sorts of reasons. But, regardless of what pushes them leave home and live on the streets, these kids are in danger and in need of help. They need to get off the streets before they become victims or turn to crime to meet basic needs such as food and clothing.
In some parts of the state, CHS is involved with the national Safe Place program, an initiative that enlists the aid of businesses and community sites to serve as referral sources for runaways. The trademark yellow and black "Safe Place" sign on the door of a store or office lets kids know that the people inside can direct them to safe shelter.
CHS shelters provide services such as food pantries, clothes closets, and health and personal hygiene products to runaways and homeless youth. But CHS offers more than a place to sleep and a meal. We offer hope.
Our programs give runaways a place to live while receiving counseling to address the source of their problems. Staff provides a nurturing environment, support system, and stability to troubled youth while working to reunite them with their families or find an alternate permanent home.
